Geta Matsuri Festival (Kamishima)/ January 1st
Before daybreak of the New Year’s Day, men residing on the island pierce awa (made by bundling oleaster brunches into a circular white ring about 2meters diameter and symbolizing the sun), using bamboos, raising and dropping it.

Ofuna Matsuri Festival (Matsuo/Aonominesan)/ (the date of the Ofuna Matsuri festival changes annually, according the old-style Japanese calendar):
On the festival day, the Eleven-faced Goddess of Mercy, which is said to have arrived to Osatsu on a whale, will be displayed.

Hachiman Matsuri Festival (Toshi/Wagu)/(the date of the Hachiman festival changes annually, according the old-style Japanese calendar):
This is festival praying for a safe and bountiful fishing season. As the main event, several men shoot arrows three times, two arrows each time, towards arrow.

Toba Haru Matsuri Festival/ Early April.
This is a festival marking the start of spring under full bloom of cherry blossom trees. It is held in Oyamazumi Jinja Shrine and Kata Jinja Shrine which are Shinto gods of Toba.

Ishigami-san Haru Matsuri Festival (Osatsu)/ May 7th.
This festival is to pray for bountiful fishing season and fulfillment of one’s aspirations. On this day, men cook and treat women in appreciation for AMA divers who have supported the households with thier hard work.

Akasaki Matsuri Festival (Toba)/ June 22nd.
This is a festival of Akasaki Jinja Shrine, a subordinate Shrine of Ise-jingu. Arasakihimenokami, the guardian deity of miniesaisyu (food offered to the Emperor) is enshrined here.

Shirongo Matsuri Festival (Sugashima)/ July.
This is a women shell diver’s festival honoring the island’s Shirahige-Daimyojin, guardian deity of the island. This is a major festival of Ise-Shima passed down for hundreds of years by the islanders.

Osatsu Tenno Kujira Matsuri Festival(Osatsu)/ July 14st.
After people carry whale mikoshi (portable Shrine) around town on their shoulders, mikoshi is carried into the ocean by AMA divers. At night, fireworks and performances take place.

Toba Minato Matsuri Festival (Toba)/ (held annually on the fourth Friday in July):
It is a festival to brighten up the sky and the Gulf of Toba with fireworks. Reflection of fireworks and the light of sightseeing boats on the water displays a fantastic scenery.
